Anecdote #5553

I'm grateful my parents aren't all that political.

I love them too much now to be pushed into considering a 180. I think I'd still find a way to appreciate them even if their ideas wildly opposed mine. Mom (and thus I) was raised Catholic, but she wasn't all that strict about it; just tried to give me direction until I found my own.

And dad is invested more in UFOs, westerns, and star trek more than talking heads. He would sit outside at night and star gaze, pulling me out of bed to show me something or another that got his attention. Ribbed me for being a sissy when in fact I was just tired; I'd ask him to have them call me if they stopped by.

But on quiet summer nights alone, I've also observed some interesting "things" when I'm looking up at the right moment. Still listening for that call.
