Pulling a Gem from a Pile of Garbage

I still have yet to schedule with a Rheumatologist, but only because most of them are not accepting new patients. I appreciate that my doctor has my back and just keeps trying.

The fatigue is still insane. The joint pain is awful. However, now that I have some ideas of what to google (rheumatoid arhtritis), I'm able to find some coping things that help.
  • I've been wearing these gloves designed for people with RA, and it reduces the pain and enables me to type.
  • I also discovered that if I take several advil upon waking, and then wait until my hips and knees don't hurt quite as much, I can usually do some stretches I found online and work the worst of the hip and leg joint pain out within 3-5 hours of waking. That means that as long as there isn't any crazy weather, I spend only 3-5 hours of my day in significant pain from my hips and knees.
  • I also read that with severe fatigue, it's best to not take naps, and to try to be as physically active as you reasonably can. So I still sleep over 12 hours a night (rip), but that is a distinct improvement over 14-18 hours a day!
  • As part of the physically active thing to avoid fatigue, and also some obvious logic to reduce the hip and knee pain (losing weight would put less strain on those joints) I have begun using an exercise bike every day! It's a low-impact exercise, and I think I've finally got the bike adjusted correctly so it doesn't strain my knees as much.
  • I have also modified my diet to be a bit healthier. I'm steering clear of greasy food (which I was doing already, and have done since I had my galbladder removed), I've reduced the amount of bread and potatoes I eat, and increased the amount of veggies, beans, and meat. I'm hoping that the increase in protein will help with the energy issues.
As a result I am able to work normally about 60% of the time, and in the last week i have lost 10lbs!
Awkwardly, not all that weight loss is from my modified diet and exercise routiene. Somehow I was losing weight sleeping 18 hours a day and eating whatever I felt like stuffing down my through (pizza and mtn dew, I'm looking at you). But I'm going to take the gems where I can find them!
